Choosing Your Path

1917555536A positive spirit is essential to living a satisfying life.

I believe when we follow what speaks to the best of us, our talents, and our strengths, we can find fulfillment and joy in living.

As your therapist, I will be looking for ‘what floats your boat?’ so to speak. We’ll identify what gives you energy and your strengths. What are the dreams for your life that you would best envision coming true?

Sometimes, it’s hard to identify what will give us peace, joy, and satisfaction for more than a moment.  Peace and joy are more than a treat of food, clothes, or amusement gizmos.

Often, people have told us what we should or shouldn’t do and how to live our lives. As a child, we need guidance and seek the approval of parents, teachers, or others.

Blessed are those who, as a child, had mentors, parents, grandparents, teachers, or others who could recognize the talents and joys and would encourage the child in those positive directions they were inclined to go.

But that is often not the case.

As adults, we get to choose our path. But often, clarity escapes us when we buy into other people’s dreams or wishes for us instead of looking within ourselves.

An analogy goes, “It’s important we have a larger windshield than a rearview mirror when we are driving – or there would be a LOT more accidents.”

When you heal from the “accidents” you’ve survived in life, whether adverse childhood experiences or trauma or accumulated burdens to your self-esteem, you can gain a new focus on your road ahead.

Then, you can achieve the joy of living the life you’ve best imagined.  So, let’s go forward from this present moment to seek what will move you ahead to a future that fulfills the best in you.
